About
GLOVE is a 501c3 nonprofit, dedicated to empower and educate women who are victims of domestic violence as well as women with children who are faced with homelessness. Our goal is to build awareness, educate, and empower women with the strength to escape. Your voice speaks FREEDOM.
In 2016 19 victims were killed due to domestic violence in Birmingham, AL. A number that we want to change. Although domestic violence has been a taboo for many years in our community it is real. Domestic Violence does not discriminate against race, status, pedigree, age, culture, or religion. It can happen to anyone.
Domestic violence is a pattern of violence or intimidation in an intimate relationship by an intimate partner against another, designed to establish power and control. An example of the different stages would be to charm and seduce, isolate, harmful threats, attacking, stalking and the final stage is death.
Stalking is a very dangerous stage in domestic violence. Stalking usually involves repeated threatening or harassing behaviors such as phone calls, following or shadowing a person, appearing at a person's home or place of employment, vandalizing property, cyber bullying and any activity that makes a person fear for her safety.
Every 1 and 4 Americans are either victims of abuse or know someone who is. Here's the sad part; the CVC reported that about 15,000,000,000 children are victims of abuse every year. Females between the ages of 16-24 and 24-35 generally experience a higher rate of domestic violence. We want help!
Our team is designed to be the First Responders in helping you to escape. We provide support, escape planning tools, help with transportation, and partnerships with other agencies to help once you've escaped. The owner and founder of GLOVE is a survivor of domestic violence and has dedicated her life to helping you escape.
In addition to domestic violence services , GLOVE has serviced those in need in Lagos, Nigeria, Accura, Ghana, Baintown Bahamas, Los Angeles California, and New York City with hot meals, hygiene products and services to help propel them forward. Today, GLOVE has served over 300,000 meals to the homeless population and implemented consulting programs to help women escape domestic violence and obtain employment and housing.
